Collect Donations Offline: Now available with CollecTin Solo

When you’re out fundraising, there will naturally be times when you find yourself without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Whether you’re at an outdoor event, working in a rural location or simply somewhere with poor signal, you don’t want connectivity issues to compromise your ability to collect donations.

We’re delighted to announce that offline functionality is now available on CollecTin Solo, following the rollout of SumUp’s offline transactions feature to charity merchants.

What are offline transactions?

Offline transactions allow you to keep processing eligible in-person card payments even when your internet connection is weak or temporarily unavailable. These transactions are stored securely on the device and, once connectivity is restored, are sent to SumUp for processing.

At that point, the cardholder’s bank carries out the final authorisation, meaning a transaction that was provisionally accepted while offline can subsequently be approved or declined depending on the available funds.

What are the limits?
Offline transactions are supported for:

• Contactless payments only
• Visa and Mastercard
• Payments of up to £100 per transaction

You can continue accepting offline payments until one of these limits is reached:

• You have been offline for 24 hours
• You have processed 75 transactions per reader during an offline session
• You have reached a total offline transaction value of £3,750

Once one of these limits is reached, you’ll need to reconnect to the internet before you can accept any further offline transactions.

How to enable offline transactions on your CollecTin Solo

The offline transactions feature will be available to all eligible charities following a firmware update. If your CollecTin Solo prompts you that new firmware is available, simply accept the update.

Once updated, you can enable offline transactions:

• From your CollecTin Solo, go to Menu.
• Select Payment options, then choose Offline transactions.
• Select Start.

Your CollecTin Solo is then ready to accept eligible payments when connectivity is unavailable.

Ideal for fundraising in hard-to-reach places

Offline functionality is particularly useful for fundraisers who regularly collect donations in places where reliable connectivity can’t always be guaranteed. From outdoor fundraising events and festivals to rural locations, community events and busy venues where mobile signals can be unreliable, you can now have greater confidence that a temporary loss of connection won’t stop you from collecting donations.

It means your fundraising doesn’t have to depend on having a perfect signal.

Offline functionality with CollecTin More

Offline functionality is also available with CollecTin More when used with Stripe, giving charities another option for continuing to collect donations when connectivity is an issue.
