From App-Based to Effortless: Good Night Out Upgrades to CollecTin Solo
Good Night Out is a pioneering campaign dedicated to making nightlife safer for everyone. Believing that nights out should be about fun, connection, and community, not fear, they work across the nightlife, culture, and hospitality sectors to promote safer spaces. Their partnerships span pubs, clubs, festivals, cultural centres, and more.
Since launching, Good Night Out has worked with, and trained 268 organisations and over 5,200 individuals, helping them to better understand, respond to, and prevent sexual violence in their spaces.
Background

Back in 2022, Good Night Out recognised the need for a contactless way of collecting donations to match the growing trend towards cashless spending. To meet this need, they invested in a CollecTin Original with Zettle, enabling them to take contactless payments using the Zettle app on a mobile device. This setup provided an effective way to modernise their fundraising and engage supporters who no longer carried cash.
While this approach worked well and helped to increase donation amounts, it came with some limitations. Staff or volunteers had to be fully present to operate the Zettle app during each donation, which made it less flexible for busy events and limited the number of opportunities to collect donations passively.
Solution
Fast forward to the launch of the SumUp Solo, and CollecTin introduced an updated version of the CollecTin Original: the CollecTin Solo. With this upgrade, Good Night Out can continue collecting quick, easy contactless donations, but without the need to process each payment via a separate mobile device - and importantly, without any ongoing monthly charges.

We love that we can fully brand the unit to highlight our presence at events - it really helps us stand out and draw attention to our work. But it’s the fact that donors can give independently, without us needing to manage each transaction through an app, makes a huge difference at busy events. We’ve also found the Solo’s Wi-Fi connectivity much more reliable, which gives us extra confidence when we’re out and about fundraising."
